Gavilan College Trustee Area 4 (Gilroy) Candidate Statement: Patricia Mondragon
Gavilan College Trustee Area 4 is the Gilroy region
By Patricia Mondragon
I’m a graduate of Gavilan Community College along with two of my daughters. Gavilan provided me with the personal and professional opportunities that caused me to reach my dreams. I have been a public servant for the past 13 years. I graduated from Gavilan College, transferred to San Jose State University and graduated with a BA in Child and Adolescent Development and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Three years later, I returned to my studies at San Jose State University and graduated with a Master’s degree in Education – Administration, and Supervision.
My professional experience includes being a home-based migrant teacher, dual immersion elementary/middle school teacher, an ESL/GED/CAHSEE instructor, an assistant principal and principal of a middle school serving over 900+ students with 60+ staff members, and a high school principal for the summer programs. As an administrator, I have ensured compliance with regulations and policies, managed various funding sources and supported professional development programs for staffing and the community. Currently I’m the principal of Del Roble Elementary in San Jose.
I know the importance of providing a quality education for our community. I have the professional experience, academic background, and community involvement that is required to support Gavilan College. I value the input from staff, families, and students in order to drive our decision-making. Only through honest and courageous conversations will we be able to coordinate efforts and make the best use of taxpayer money. I will represent my constituents with pride and respect at the table.
As a Gavilan College Board of Trustees member, I’ll bring the perspective of parents and students. I will actively engage in the meetings and committees to represent my constituents. I will ensure public transparency, accountability and proper budget allocations in the best interest of our community. Vote for me this November. www.patricia4gavilan.com
