Santa Clara County seeking individuals to serve on its redistricting commission

Must be able to serve from June through December

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors established the 2021 Advisory Redistricting Commission to conduct public hearings to get input regarding the drawing of supervisorial district boundaries in compliance with state and federal law. The commission will provide recommendations to the board of supervisors regarding the placement of the supervisorial district boundaries.

Individuals interested in serving must meet the following qualifications, and members who are appointed and must continue to meet the qualifications throughout their service on the commission:

  • Must be a registered voter in Santa Clara County.
  • Must not be an elected official of the County, or a family member, staff member, or paid campaign staff of an elected official of the county.
  • Must have the ability to serve from June through December 2021 and attend all meetings held every other Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. from July 2021 through Sept. 2021. From Oct. 2021 through Nov. 2021, meetings will occur weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. If the deadline to complete the redistricting process is extended, the commission may extend meetings into Dec. 2021.
  • Must possess experience that demonstrates the ability to comprehend and apply the applicable legal requirements.
  • Must possess experience that demonstrates analytical skills relevant to the process and voting rights.
  • Must complete training regarding local government ethics, statement of economic interests, analytical skills, voting rights, county profile with demographic information, and mapping software.
  • May not be a candidate for an elective office of the county or serve as an appointed officer of the county (including service on another board or commission).
  • May not endorse, work for, volunteer for, or make a campaign contribution to, a candidate for an elective office of the county.
  • May not serve as an officer of, employee of or paid consultant to a campaign committee or a candidate for elective office of the county, a political party or as an elected or appointed member of a political party central committee, or a currently serving elected officer of the county.
