Gilroy City Council Candidate Dion Bracco

Dion Bracco

I ask for your vote for Gilroy City Council at a very critical time in our city’s history. At this moment, the Gilroy City Council is carefully balanced between common- sense members and those who support a more radical agenda. I endorse traditional Gilroy values that embrace faith, family, and work. I’ve worked to balance city budgets, fund sidewalk and street repairs, reform out-of-control public employee pensions, and build the new San Ysidro Community Center and state-of-the-art Public Library as well as purchase Gilroy Gardens and re-open the Sunrise Fire Station.

My focus for the next four years is on building a world-class drug and rehabilitation facility to assist our homeless population, increasing recreational and tourism opportunities like the Sharks’ Ice Rinks and the Gilroy Gardens Bike and Wave Park, and strengthening law enforcement, especially in cracking down on public drug use and encampments. We need to repeal state laws that release criminals into our neighborhoods and permit shoplifting and other retail crimes. I will insist that budget surpluses are used to put more officers on the streets and criminals behind bars. We are fortunate that since I became a member of the Council in 2005, Gilroy’s crime rate has fallen by 24% and 7% between 2015 and 2019, despite massive increases in other parts of California. We need to maintain that momentum.

Gilroy is still recovering from the damage inflicted by the COVID pandemic. We cannot permit lockdowns that crush local businesses and cost jobs to happen again. Our city requires proven leadership that recognizes the need to embrace business-friendly policies that create jobs, a law-and-order approach that deters crime, and solutions to the homeless crisis that actually reduce the homeless population, not increase it.
