ChatGPT: Optimizing Language Models for DialogueOpenAI is an artificial intelligence company that does research and deployment of this advanced technology. According to its website, its mission is to “ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.”

 The company was founded in San Francisco in December 2015 by Sam Altman, Elon Musk and other entreprenuers, who collectively pledged US$1 billion in venture capital funding.

In November, the company launched ChatGPT, an AI tool that provides a conversational interface that allows users to ask questions in natural language. The system then responds with an answer within seconds. It reached 1 million users only five days after its initial launch.

 ChatGPT interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for it to answer followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. 

Intrigued by the potential of this technology for use in news media, education, politics and AI’s impact on humanity, Gilroy Life/Morgan Hill Life publisher had a “conversation” with ChatGPT the afternoon of December 28, 2022.  He felt as if he were actually having a conversation with a human being and not a machine.
