Gilroy City Councilmember Zac Hilton wants to promote bicycles as a green and clean form of transportation. That’s why he put together an Official Bike To Work Day Energizer Station at the Gilroy Transit Center from 5:30 -8:30 a.m. to celebrate May 18 as Bike to Work Day
Pledge ahead of time and you’ll get a nice bike bag, blueberry coffee cake, hot coffee, and the chance at a prize from Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition random drawings.
He’s also asking residents to nominate a Gilroy resident for “Bike Person of the Year” as a part of May’s Bike Month celebrations. The nominee can be someone of any age who has shown the qualities of a leader when it comes to the local bike community. They can be a student at a local school who has encouraged biking to school, advocated for safety improvements, or has started a program. Or it could be an adult who has advocated for better bike parking, organizes events around bike safety, or started any programs for the community.
“There are many bike advocates that don’t realize the positive impact they have on the community, and this is a great way to elevate them,” Hilton said.
