Valley Water accepting applications for program

Classes will provide residents with understanding of water issues

Valley Water is now accepting applications for its Water 101 Academy, a free five-session program aiming to develop informed water advocates across Santa Clara County.

“We designed Water 101 to provide residents a comprehensive understanding of our regional water issues while building a network of knowledgeable voices who can engage their communities,” said Valley Water spokesperson Matt Keller.

The 2024 academy will convene select area residents virtually for interactive presentations and discussions focused on local water infrastructure, conservation initiatives, flood protection efforts, purification innovations, and other priority topics. Sessions will occur Thursday evenings from April to May, with a Saturday, June 1, field trip to showcase facilities firsthand.

“Graduates gain in-depth perspective on how Valley Water secures their water needs along with how they can support our mission as partners,” Keller said. “It’s a rewarding experience that underscores how we all have a role to play in responsible water stewardship.”

Participants must be Santa Clara County residents 18 or older able to attend at least 80 percent of sessions. Graduates also commit to staying engaged as Valley Water ambassadors for two years through community education and water-related volunteering. The deadline to apply is Jan. 26.
