It’s time to dismiss thoughts of April with its mix of cold, raining days and sunny ones and welcome May — the “ah-may-zing” month when hummingbirds return to our feeders, lilacs start blooming and the wild flowers are still celebrating in the sun.

It is time to get out folks and Morgan Hill has a calendar full of fun events, one of which you must plan to attend.

This month, the city of Morgan Hill will be offering families a fun opportunity to find out about life-enhancing resources that are available.

Between 2018 and 2022, the event was focused on senior resources and older adults in the community found the fair to be very organized; they enjoyed the entertainment and found the exhibitors to be very helpful.

But the city of Morgan Hill wanted to do more than just be an “age friendly city” to the older adults. Morgan Hill wanted to help people of all ages — after all, a family that works to stay healthy and well together, stays together longer, right?

This year, the Senior Advisory Committee, the Morgan Hill Unified School District, the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce came together to sponsor this two-part Family and Wellness Resource Fair.

The first part, happens between May 14 and 17 with workshops that will be held at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center (CCC). The workshops will cover a wide range of subjects with ageless appeal:

  • From mental health awareness to digital reputation (May 14)
  • How to ensure financial security as we age (May 14)
  • How to navigate social media and online spaces (May 15)
  • Substance abuse awareness, prevention and treatment (May 16)
  • A free paint party celebrating brain health and creativity (6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Advance registration required, seating limited. Please RSVP: www.eventbrite.com/e/mindscapes-mocktails-and-music-tickets-886923561247?aff=oddtdtcreator
  • A Stanford Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (El Toro room – May 17).
  • Using “the power of plants” to prevent chronic illnesses and achieve weight loss;
  • How to feed a family of four on a $10 budget.

Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the CCC the following will be available:

  • Health and wellness information of interest to people of all ages, provided by exhibitors.
  • Health screenings
  • Entertainment for the young and the young-at-heart
  • Raffles, giveaways and prizes
  • Facepainting and games
  • Tasty Mexican food and reviving drinks for purchase.

Any member of the family will have access to an abundance of valuable life-enhancing information about health and wellness, as well as activities to participate in.

Last year, a family new to Morgan Hill were very thankful for information that helped them find a wonderful place for their 90-year-old mother.

Several people were pleased to learn how the veteran in their family could access home care benefits. Teens found it “cool” to work on creative projects with older adults.

You will have many events to choose from, but this is one event you don’t want to miss — it happens once a year. The benefit of getting life-enhancing answers for the family is definitely worth it.
