Music in the Air … with Mark ‘Fenny’ Fenichel: Mushroom Festival May 25-26 offers plenty of music, family fun

This year’s festival offers two stages of non-stop music.

The Mushroom Festival is almost here and the anticipation is growing. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday May 25 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday May 26 Memorial weekend at the Morgan Hill Community & Cultural Center and Downtown Amphitheater grounds.

This year’s festival offers two stages of non-stop music. The Amphitheater Stage (main stage) begins Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Ann Sobrato Jazz Ensemble, 10:30 a.m. The Barrett School Singers, 11 a.m. Soul Kiss, 1 p.m. Superbad, 3 p.m. Groove Ride, and 5:15 p.m. Hotel California (Eagles Tribute Band.

On Sunday, the music starts at 10 a.m. with The Fog City Swampers, 12 p.m. Luv Bomb, 11:30 a.m. Scholarship Awards Presentation, 2 p.m. The Money Band, and at 4 p.m. The Party Starters close out the Saturday shows.

The Depot Stage is the Acoustic Stage and is featuring a nice mix of solo and duo acts from blues, rock, folk and country to bluegrass and original music.

It’s a good spot to sit and relax, sip some wine and people watch. Saturday starts at 11:30 a.m. with the Cook’n Fenny Combo, 1 p.m. Low Noon, 2:30 p.m. Steve Kritzer, 4 p.m. Just One More, and 5:30 p.m. Lambert & Hurricane.

On Sunday, the music starts at 11:30 a.m. with Wine Women & Wrong,  1 p.m. Just Friends, 2:30 p.m. Tyler Diamond, 4 p.m. Jeff Smith Solo, and 5 p.m. Free Spirit.

Of course, the famous Cooking Stage is starting at 11:30 a.m. both days and numerous food concessions, some featuring mushroom favorites, can be found in abundance.

Admission is  $20 for general admission, $17 for seniors and members of the military, and children younger than 15 are free.

Remember, this is a fundraiser that raises money for scholarships for local students. The festival has raised more than $1.75 million in the past 40 years for educational scholarships in Morgan Hill.
