Greg Bozzo – Candidate statement 2024

I’m running for Mayor to help Gilroy reach its full potential.  I believe that my skill set and style are key characteristics for success. As mayor, I will help create a culture where all citizens, city-employees, nonprofits, businesses feel seen, heard, and valued.

The biggest asset of our community is the people. Relying on the personal and professional experiences  of our citizenry is how I believe Gilroy reaches its full potential. I am running for Mayor not because this community lacks the experience to be better, but because it currently lacks the leadership to be.

I’ve lived in downtown Gilroy most of my life. My wife and two daughters attended Gilroy public schools. We are foster parents to a four year old boy.

My wife and I own a successful commercial landscape construction business in Gilroy that has contributed to many community projects and events in our city.

I was a member of the council-appointed Housing Neighborhood Revitalization Committee and president of the Brownell Parent Club and the Sister City Association. Recently, I helped develop and fund a community garden that is utilized by over 40 families, many of whom are underserved. I served as the Garlic Festival president in 2010. As Mayor, I will lead a vigorous, public effort to restart it.

Working in construction and development for thirty years, I am able to navigate a complex business environment and regulations while working with large, diverse groups of employees, vendors, inspectors and clients.

As Mayor I will prioritize customer and business services at City Hall. I will collaborate, transparently, with business leaders and the new council to renew our economic development goals and vigorously implement them. We will strengthen relationships with businesses and property owners in the downtown corridor so that Gilroyans can finally enjoy the entertainment district they desire.

We will seek out private/public economic partnerships that will help resolve currently neglected critical infrastructure, public safety, and unhoused issues that affect every citizen.

I am proud to call Gilroy home. I have a great sense of duty, obligation, and desire to help us reach its full potential.
