Kelly Ramirez – Candidate statement 2024

I have lived in Gilroy for 49 years and Gilroy has my heart!  My husband Pete and I have three children and four grandchildren. Pete has enjoyed a career in law enforcement spanning more than four decades.

As a teacher, I taught at St. Mary School, in the Gilroy Unified School District, and at Gavilan College for 12 years. I taught English to non-native speakers and sought to ensure that the less fortunate had equal access to programs and services.

I was responsible for bringing the first American Cancer Society Relay for Life event to Gilroy and chaired it for the first three years. That led to a new career in non-profit management, including Chief Development Officer at the YWCA Silicon Valley and Executive Director of the Mt. Madonna YMCA.

I currently serve as a Gilroy Planning Commissioner, Treasurer of the Gilroy Garlic Festival Board, and President of the Rotary Club of Gilroy.

My vision for Gilroy focuses on public safety, economic opportunity and local control. I have a keen sense of the needs of our diverse community’s vulnerable residents and the experience in providing services that address their needs.
