Fourth Annual Food Truck Fly-in coming to San Martin Airport

Enjoy demonstrations of all different kinds of flying machines

By Staff Report

Airplanes, food trucks, and families will share the flight line at San Martin Airport during the Fourth Annual Food Truck Fly-in that takes place Oct. 26. This is a free community event of delicious food, aircraft displays, aviation-centered entertainment, collectors’ cars, and live music that draws more than 4,000 attendees from our local community each year.

“This is another great opportunity for the public to mix with the aviation community on a day of flying fun, food, and family-friendly festivities at our own San Martin airfield,” said Niki Britton, co-organizer of the event. “This invitation comes with the hope of demonstrating to our neighbors the importance of having an airport in our community.”

Food Truck Fly-In attendees this year will enjoy:

– Demonstrations of airplanes and helicopters to powered paragliders, gyroplanes, light sport, aerobatic, vintage, and experimental unmanned aircraft.

– A children’s zone, new this year, with activities designed for junior pilot visitors.

– Aviation businesses based at the airport and in our community including flight instruction, skydiving, aircraft maintenance, aircraft covers, and experimental aircraft technologies will be there to answer questions.

– Mouth-watering choices of food for purchase from a variety of locally owned and operated food trucks, including: Tlaxiacos Pizza, Grillzilla, Chickn Bros, Akita Sushi, La Patrona Cocina Mexicana, Fire and Slice Pizza Truck, and more.

– The Wings of History Aircraft Museum, just across the street from the airport, will be the home of a wine and beer garden sponsored by the Gilroy Garlic Festival, where adults can relax and enjoy a glass. Take a tour for a small donation for entry.

– Display of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the world’s largest aviation organization, 2025 Giveaway Sweepstakes Airplane. This beautiful 1958 Cessna 182 will undergo a 15-month long restoration before being given away in a drawing next year. The winner does not need to be a member of AOPA or be present to win. Entry information will be available at the event.

“Often the community outside the airport gates can miss how important an airfield can be,” said Joe McMurray, co-organizer of the event. “San Martin Airport has served as a staging area for CalFire helicopters during fire season, youngsters from Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy have been given free flights at the airport through the Young Eagles program, and the Disaster Airlift Response Team made up of pilots from San Martin Airport has been staying prepared to help in the event of a disaster by being able to fly supplies into or out of our community.”
